What are Shin Splints?
Have you ever gone into your training regimen with utmost of enthusiasm only to be reduced to near tears from the pain in your lower leg(s) within days of starting out?
Pain in the front of the lower legs is often known as shin splints. The injury is an overuse injury and can be caused by training too hard, too soon, running on hard surfaces or running on the toes. It can also be found in sports where a lot of jumping is involved. If you over pronate (foot rolls in) then you are also more susceptible to this injury. The most common cause of pain is inflammation of the periostium of the tibia (sheath surrounding the bone).
